What Writer From the Past Would You Like to Write the Introduction to Your Book?

It is not uncommon for one writer to compose an introduction or preface for another writer’s book. I was thinking about this idea today–who I would like to write an introduction for my book Maledicus: The Investigative Paranormal Paranormal Society, Book 1. For me,  I would have liked Edgar Allan Poe to write this preface or introduction. He would have been a perfect choice.

My question to all of you is this: What dead author would you like to write the preface or introduction to one of your books?

Pre-release Notice of Get The Draft Done! and The Investigative Paranormal Society Cookbook by Charles F. French!

Standard

I am very excited to announce that I will have two books out soon! I do not have a specific release dates yet, but when they are certain, I will reveal them.

One book is traditionally published: Get The Draft Done! — a book to help writers who struggle to complete a first draft.

The other book is self-published (more adventures in being a hybrid writer!) — The Investigative Paranormal Society Cookbook — and is a fun little volume of recipes from characters from the Investigative Paranormal Society.

More information on these books soon!

What is Your Work In Progress?

I am currently working on several projects: a first draft of a political thriller (about 1/2 finished), a third draft of a fantasy novel, and a  cookbook from meals by the characters in my series Maledicus: The Investigative Paranormal Society, Book 1 and Gallows Hill: The Investigative Paranormal Society, Book 2 by Charles F. French. This is a small, enjoyable book that I am creating for the sheer fun of it.

So, now I ask all the writers out there:

What is your Work In Progress?

Here is a big thank you to readers!  Without readers, writers would be completely lost.

Reading is one of the most crucial and pleasurable of activities–not only does it inform us about the world and those who inhabit it, but also the reading of fiction and placing ourselves in the positions of characters creates empathy.

Once again, to readers — thank you!

Writing Progress Update: Charles F. French

Standard

It has been a while since I have given a writing progress update, so I thought it was time to do so. I have been busy with several projects, but, of course, I am not quite where I want to be. The important detail, though, is that I am continuing to write every day. I hope that all of you do this also.

*I have 55 pages done on the first draft of a political thriller. I hope to have this first draft done sometime in March.

*I have completed 177 pages of draft # 2 of the fantasy novel, that is now book # 1 in a trilogy. I originally thought of this one as a modest mid-grade fantasy, but it is too violent for 6-8 graders, and the themes encompass adult issues. So while the protagonists are 13, it is now an  adult fantasy. Does this make sense?

*I am putting together a small book on the recipes and menus from the characters from the I. P. S., the Investigative Paranormal Society from Maledicus: The Investigative Paranormal Society, Book 1 and Gallows Hill: The Investigative Paranormal Society, Book 2. I want to have this out in the late spring.

*I am working with my publisher–doesn’t that sound wonderful!–on my next writing book–Get The Draft Done–which should be out sometime this Spring.

So, now that I have updated you, I ask all of you: what are you currently writing?

An Invitation To Join The U.L.S. The Underground Library Society–In Honor of National Banned Books Week

Standard

ULS Logo 3

This week is National Banned Books Week–an important time to focus on the risks of books being banned and challenged.

In an earlier First Year Class at Lehigh University, The U.L.S. — The Underground Library Society — was created. It is in the spirit of the Book People from Ray Bradbury’s Fahrenheit 451. In that novel, all books have been banned, and a few people “become” books by memorizing them, in the hope that, one day, books will be permitted to exist again.

In that spirit, I am putting out the call once more for like-minded people to join The U.L.S. All that is needed is to choose a book you would memorize if the need ever arose. You do not actually have to memorize  the book now. If you wish to join, simply write a guest post in which you say what book you would “become” and why.

I hope many of you choose to join.
