Quotations on Courage

“I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear.”

                                                                                         Nelson Mandela

“We gain strength, and courage, and confidence by each experience in which we really stop to look fear in the face. . . we must do that which we think we cannot.”  Eleanor Roosevelt

  1. “Being deeply loved by someone gives you strength, while loving someone deeply gives you courage.”
    ― Lao Tzu

“A ship is safe in harbor, but that’s not what ships are for.”
    ― John A. Shedd

My dad told me early and often, what courage really was, and I guess, in all the things I’ve run across, this quote sums all he said, showed as examples, or took time to stop the activities of the day to discuss ‘courage’ – this one sums it up nicely –

“Bran thought about it. ‘Can a man still be brave if he’s afraid?’
‘That is the only time a man can be brave,’ his father told him.”
    ― George R.R. Martin
