Enough Is Enough!

“All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.”

Edmund Burke

How many mass shootings will occur before we do something about it? Once again, a horrible shooting took place today in El Paso, Texas. The numbers that I have seen on television reporting are at least 19 dead and over 40 wounded. Once again, this horror occurs in America. Once again, we can expect those politicians who are in the control of the NRA to offer “thoughts and prayers.” Once again, we, as a nation, need to demand action.

Once again, we need to say in one voice, “Enough is enough!”

This is a uniquely American tragedy, not that it cannot happen in other countries, but the sheer numbers of incidents that do occur here make it part of the fabric of our nation.

We must not allow this to be normal, to hear it, be upset, and then just move on. This is wrong, this is evil, and this must not continue. The majority of Americans want some form of gun control. We must not simply want it. We must demand it. We must tell politicians that if they do not take action on gun control, we will vote them out of office. We must demand that they stand up to the corporate gun lobby and the NRA. We must demand that they understand and recognize human lives matter more than the sale of guns no one should have.

“I swore never to be silent whenever and wherever human beings endure suffering and humiliation. We must take sides. Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim. Silence encourages the tormentor, never the tormented.”

Elie Wiesel

Let us speak out. Vote. Let your voices be heard.

  1. The more of us that speak out against these horrors, the more our voices are heard. I, too, have written on this. When the “leader”, and I use that term loosely, of the nation calls for violence, supports racism and bigotry, and rallies the masses to a frenzy … it’s going to happen again and again and again. You’re right … enough is ENOUGH! But, this won’t be the last one …

  2. Here here ! no one who is not in the armed forces, or in a specialist police unit should have a gun. It might sound harsh but not even for hunting . If farmers need to shoot creatures or birds a specialist should be called in. Guns should be outlawed, the gun laws are totally flawed. Okay I am naive. But the slaughter must stop. … What has Trump to say.

  3. It is a uniquely American tragedy exactly because it could happen anywhere, but it doesn’t. The arguments that if you ban guns people will buy them on the deep web makes no sense. Everybody in the world with strictly enforced gun control can buy any noxious weapon on the web, point is, they don’t. Only in America.
Nobody needs a gun, and if your country (so-called richest most advanced nation in the world) is so insecure that ordinary citizens need to be armed to the teeth with military-grade weapons to defend themselves from their fellow citizens then you have an extremely sick society in need of emergency attention.
I really hope right prevails, but on past performance, it’s unlikely. Sandy Hook….

  4. Nowhere is safe, not schools, not offices, not churches, not restaurants, nowhere. Our country has descended into madness with young crazy hateful men armed with military gear. But our leaders blame video games…

  5. Mental health plays a big role, too. I worry as much about identifying and helping children and young adults who are troubled. Parents and teachers need to see the signs and speak up. That is not happening. I still have nightmares over Sandy Hook. Thank you, Charles.
