“A human being is a part of the whole called by us universe, a part limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feeling as something separated from the rest, a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest to us. Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty.”

                                                                     Albert Einstein

“Love and compassion are necessities, not luxuries. Without them, humanity cannot survive.”

I shared this on twitter because I think it’s important, especially the one about not actually being separated from the mass of humanity. We imagine that we are, but it is not the case … hard to get your head around, but so important, on both good and bad days.

  2. Thank you so kindly for these beautiful quotations. Oh, if only the world could see and understand this. Babies don’t grow up hating the universe and other people in it. They have to be taught those things . . .
