Capitulation and Treason

Once again, I find myself forced to speak about politics in this blog. President Trump’s

disgraceful press conference with Russia’s Putin demonstrated a singular abandonment

of American values and policies. Trump has made it clear that the Russian dictator

controls him, and that he values Putin more than he does the United States of America.

He has buckled to Putin and capitulated to the former K.G.B. agent’s agenda.

I wish I were over-reacting, but I do not believe that I am. I quote from CNN Politics (7/16/2018):

“Sen. John McCain, an Arizona Republican who has consistently criticized the President,

said Trump’s comments were ‘one of the most disgraceful performances by an American

president in memory.'”

“Republican Sen. Ben Sasse, a Republican from Nebraska, issued a blistering statement
just minutes after the press conference wrapped. Sasse rebuked Trump’s statement that
he held ‘both countries responsible’ for the deteriorated relationship between the United
States and Russia. ‘This is bizarre and flat-out wrong. The United States is not to blame.
America wants a good relationship with the Russian people but Vladimir Putin and his
thugs are responsible for Soviet-style aggression,’ Sasse said in the statement.
‘When the President plays these moral equivalence games, he gives Putin a propaganda
win he desperately needs.'”
I quote from (7/16/2018): Former CIA director John Brennan, a frequent
Trump critic and a national security analyst for NBC News and MSNBC,   called
Trump’s performance ‘nothing short of treasonous.'”
It is now certain that Russia instituted and conducted a cyber attack against the United
States of America and our voting system, the sacred basis of our democracy, an action
that can be considered an act of war. Article Three of the Constitution of the United
States of America defines treason as “Treason against the United States, shall consist only
in levying War against them, or in adhering to their Enemies, giving them Aid and
Comfort.” Russia clearly is our enemy, and giving aid or comfort to the enemy is, without
a doubt, an act of treason.
Americans need to put aside differences of being liberal or conservative, Democratic or
Republican, and recognize the clear threat to our democracy that is being shown by
President Trump. Congress needs to act, and Americans must keep pressure on Congress
to act.
We must preserve our democracy.

  1. Charles, thank you for this profound, true critique, and very astute assessment of what our President did today. It was a total rebuke of his oath of office to protect America against our adversaries and never forgot that Putin wants, above all else, to destroy America’s Democracy as he has done successful in other countries. Thank you.

  3. Well said Charles. Ii hope that more of the Republicans will now stop burying their heads in the sand and recognise that either Trump is a Russian Asset or Putin holds something over his head and is blackmailing him. The third option (which I believe) is that Trump wants to make a name for himself in ending the cold war because he knows he’s making a mess of everything else.. Whatever the answer, he’s betrayed the American people with this performance.

  4. I have come to expect despicably cruel and careless behavior from this man, and it has been clear to me all along that he is a self-serving narcissist and a Putin puppet. But yesterday evening I could barely believe my ears. I was relieved that the word “treason” was clearly stated. Then Pence defended Trump. I hope the Republicans rediscover their patriotism and say enough is enough and impeach both of them.

  5. We are still reeling here in the UK after his disgraceful attack on our Prime Minister on the eve of her struggles to get some kind of deal for brexit and as for wandering in front of the Queen and chattering about their private conversation – something that is never done – it would be funny if he didn’t represent the most powerful country on the planet:(

  6. My jaw hit the Canadian soil I live upon when I saw the news conference. Putin even had the audacity to mention Bill Browder (Magnitsky Act) by name, and offered to allow American investigators to interview the 12 Russian intelligence agents just indicted in exchange for Browder and those close to him. It came out of the blue. He wasn’t even asked about it. As A Canadian, I’ve always adored America, proud to be your cousin to the north. trump is ruining many good feelings.
    Thank you for this article.

      • Any action should be now or at least start now Charles. He and the people have to know there are consequences for actions like his, they can’t always be glossed over as most have been. This is treason, pushing the people of America and the Government under the bus instead of supporting the information provided by the Mueller probe. He’d rather believe a man who says ‘No, it wasn’t me’than his own professionals. He seems fixated on friendships with dictators and may well want to be one. Don’t give him the chance please.

  7. Well said. When Putin buoyantly took the stage and spoke for twenty minutes, I sensed that this was going to be worse than I thought. Unfortunately, I was. Like many bullies, Trump’s performance was weak and a betrayal of the hard working people in our country. He deserves all of the criticism he is getting. His feeble attempts to alter what was said, indicate a man who is trying to convince himself that he was not wrong. He was.

The question that we must let Mueller find out is why? Is he an unwitting participant in the Russian meddling and guilty of obstruction of justice or is it more? Sadly, I think it is more.

  8. Thank you for this statement, and information!
Maybe I can give one thing to consider. Germany has been controlling the European Union for a number of years. We have been very clear here lately that the descendants of desplaced persons after the Second World War want to return to former german territories in Eastern Europe. So Germany wants to go back to the east. Only Chancellor Merkel confirmed to our really small editorial office in the year 2014 that she felt bound by the international agreements with Poland and the Czech Republic. She added that she cannot command this to others-the federal government? In future leadership of Europe Germany could be a risk, because its possible the economic power of Germany makes it possible to “re-buy” these former territories. This way maybe the USA and Russia have to find a solution.
    Have a great weekend. Michael

  9. Thank you for your post. As a Frenchman, it is now quite clear to me that Mr “Tramp” treats America’s ennemies (Kim, Putin) better than its (former?) friends. A long list of abuse: Angela Merckel, Theresa May (Strangely enough both are women; another example of chauvinism?) And the European Union has been declared an “enemy”.
Those who support Mr. Strangelove will be held accountable by History.
I still can’t understand how Nixon was ousted and this one can’t be…
Please defend America. (And the rest of us!) 🙂

  10. I am weary of going online and seeing the devastion there. I’m flat out tired of trying to explain to friends and neighbors on this side of the Atlantic. Much of what is said is that the Democratic Party believes that the upcoming election will transform things. That people actually believe this election will be free of interference. There are also some who expect that soon Washington DC will be renamed, The Kremlin West. This President has sold off America and the environment while driving nails in its coffin.
