I have tried very hard in this blog not to be political. I have extremely strong views, but I have attempted to keep them out of this site. I no longer can.
The United States of America, which has been the beacon of hope to the desperate of the world, now have become the nation that rips children from their parents. What is happening at the southern border is inexcusable. No American, regardless of political leaning, no matter if Democrat, Republic, or Independent, whether liberal, moderate, or conservative, should accept what our government is doing.
Attorney General Sessions used The Bible to justify these actions. I suggest he actually consider the lesson that Jesus gave in Matthew 19:14 “But Jesus said, Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven.” The action of the government, separating children from asylum-seeking parents, is an abomination. And Jesus would not have approved.
When did the United States of America lose its compassion? My parents were the generation that fought World War Two, defeating the worst threat to freedom ever faced by the world: fascism, especially under Hitler. Let us remember that Hitler began with attacks on children.
If you have children or grandchildren and needed help to get them to safety, would you not expect aid from The United States of America?
Where is our decency?
It is time to stand up and say no more.
We will not treat families this way.
We will not take children from parents.
We say no more!
I could not agree more. This needed to be said so thank you.

Well said, Charles. Unfortunately our country has become the very evil your parents’ generation fought against. You’re right that we need to stand up and vote, but it isn’t going to be easy. Thousands of Americans support the evil that’s being perpetrated by our leaders; and, by extension, their supporters. That’s why we all need to speak up.

Yes, we do. We cannot stand by as so many Germans did in the 1930s.

The eyes of the World are on you Charles, your words are cheering. But it would be nice to see no parent will be taken from a child and because they have the temerity to claim asylum they are cast into prisons which may not be better than where they came from. It seems the US has undergone an operation to remove it’s heart.
What we also see from here is the welcome rise of the bigot, the racist and the white supremacist. Not only are they stepping into the light more but they’re being given Presidential approval via tweet to stand for election and that same approval brings the voters out to help them win.
I suspect the world may be as divided as your country but most of us hope that the majority of you that voted Democrat last time will do so in the midterms and stop this rising scum from winning seats. It looks as though if the Republicans win a clear majority they will support racism and Trump will be the new Hitler. You may never see another fair election again.

I wish I could say that you are wrong. I wish I could say that the republicans see the monster they unleashed and the error of their ways. I wish I could say that November will bring change, that it will be the beginning of the end of Trumpism. Sadly, I am not so sure.

The USA historically has accepted asylum seekers without first imprisoning them and separating parents and children. Trump has ordered this to be done on the southern border, and it is inhumane.

I live in New Zealand and it’s quite frightening to see what’s happening in the United States. I think there are times when we all need to say something on the political situation, and this is certainly one of those times. Down here we are all appalled by what we are seeing. Well said.

If the government wishes to start ( continue) quoting the Bible, I suggest they also start keeping kosher and following the other 613 – YES, 613- commandments in the Torah too, such ” you shall welcome the stranger”. Hypocrites ALL.

You already know my position on this as I came from Germany after the war. Everyone said “never again’ and here we are one more time doing things we know is wrong. But we as Americans have been doing horrendous things since the beginning of our stay here. There always seems to be someone in power that thinks it’s ok to hurt people for their greater good. I hope every morning to find the report on the news that the person in power is no longer in power doing mean and stupid things with so many covering and making excuses. I’m with you, I could rant all day but it’s not helping anyone. We have a global problem when people have to run from their homes for a decent life. It’s systemic.
LikeLiked by 3 people
I agree that it is systemic, but I think that means the system can be changed. Right now, the best way is by speaking out and voting. They are terrified that people might vote against them.

I too am distressed by this… so much so it may be time to become a card-carrying activist. It is time to stand up to these bullies who are destroying the integrity of this country. And thinking that those of us who wait and see will never rise is a mistake that will be breathtaking in its underestimation.

Yes. No more. And I say that as a Frenchman who’s gone to school in the US and loves that great nation. Now it appears as if America’s oldest friends and allies are… attacked? From Canada to Japan, it seems America is making friends with dictators and shunning us (G6)?
And separating babies from their mothers? Seriously?
I remember Obama could not do anything because Congress blocked him. Why can that man do anything he pleases? Where are the checks and balances? Is anyone going to stand up to Dr. Strangelove?
Thank you for your post.

Hello! I noticed you were taking the time to read a lot of my posts and I’m very grateful! I’m from Montreal and my grandmother is British but my mum and her twin sister were born here in the province of Quebec. My mum never really gave politics a lot of attention but her twin sister is a Trump fanatic and well it’s been tearing the family apart.. Well not really the family but rather just my mum and her twin sister. My mum got to a point that she wasn,t really feeling good so she went to visit her sister who is now an american citizen and lives in Miami. I’m telling you all this because her sister couldn’t go through ine single day trying to convince my mother that she would be suppose to support trump even thught it doesn’t matter at all because she’s canadian and she doesn,t even vote!! My mum tried to remain neutral through all this but it ended my mum just wanting to come back home earlier than she was suppose to ebcause she simply couldn’t take it anymore. Lately my mum posted something against those family being separated on her fb page and her sister got so angry and started to obe really vindicative so my mum just erased it all, which managed to get her sister even more angry, saying who dared to erased her comments, etc… Anyways my poor grandmother is 97 and all she wants is the family getting along and its so sad to see all this happening. Anyways one thing I especially want to say is that it’s especially that Trumpist fanatic behavior that pushes people away from people who are for Trump and are getting totally crazy about it and they have to make everyone a Trump fanatic. It’s gotten to the point that you can’t post anything about Trump without haing some kind of drama happening. I,m I the only one who feels like Trump is there to test the limit of how much people are able to take without taking actions so that a president has to retire before his term eeven if HE doesn,t want to. I know I’m canadian so what business do I have to tell people what to do int heir country…I understand that but..Well.. Since my aunt is doing it to my mum who told her 1000 times that it doesn,t matter what she thinks cuz she’s not even american therefore her opinion doesn’t matter!! So I just wanted to give you guys a little heads up into how it got to my family..Also I’m sick and how I got tired to tune up to CNN, a chanel that I had to pay extra to get, only to get to hear each and every single day, hear about what Trump had twitted that day….God!!! I don’t pay for CNN anymore, I changed it to BBC News where at least I get other news… Trump has such a big ego that he his using all the space that other people could need. His like a huge shadow that prevents other more important matters to be heard. How much is too mcuh?? Well IMO, Trump has trespassed that point a long time ago. How come was he elected even if everyone thought Clinton would be elected (I understand btw that you guys had to choose the lesser of 2 evils) , and then how come after all these stupid, disgusting opinions and moves he’s done that no one is talking about throwing him off his presidency after embarrassing the USA in front of the whole world because of his opinions and words. Yes the economy is probably better but at what cost???? I’m not thrwing the rock at anyone here, sorry if it seemed that way but like I said I feel that the only worthy president was the first one who was eliminated then between Clinton and Trump, it was choosing between the lesser of 2 evils. Now, I’m not living in USA so I’m asking the question as a question, no more no less…Just wanting to know what the average amercian thinks of this circus that has been going oin since Trump got elected.

I despise what is happening, and I hope we retake the House in November and then the Presidency in 2020. What Trump is doing is horrifying.

PS:I thank you so very much to the attention you have given my blog and I,m sorry to have posted such a long tirade about trump but tbh its the first time I do speak about it because I felt at ease to do it with you since you seem to be a pretty open minded person and I’m sorry if it was so long… I guess I waited to long to express myself on the subject but I just wanted to avoid the subject because there is always a trump fanatic who comes and thorws a brick at me and I end up deleting the whole thing. Maybe I souldn,t have talked at all since its none of my business since I’m Canadian…If you feel that way. I am sorry. I just had to let it out because that think on fb happend yesterday and my mum was quite upset with it al..I mean the bond between tein sisters is quite strong so yes..I guess it affected me a lot and even more so when my grandmother is sad to see her 2 girls being separated by such an issue… We managed to keep her away from some of it but she uses fb so she saw it all yesterday…. Which breaks my heart.

We really need to learn from our history and the world’s history. The US has succeeded in illustrating how you are doomed to repeat your mistakes if you don’t learn from history.
Additionally, we’re traumatizing children — the ones of impressionable minds — planting seeds of fear and hate. I’m afraid that the hatred that blooms will double back and bite us.
And when it does, we’ll refuse to shoulder the blame. Refuse to admit that our actions now caused it. The cycle will continue…
