  1. I’ve never been a huge King fan (so much to read!), but what he says here resonates so fully with me. I especially respond to his point about getting to know your characters as you write them. You can have a vague “plot” in your mind—where you want the characters to get to someday—but you don’t know how they’re going to make the trip or even if it’s the right destination until you get to know them, through what they tell you, not what you tell them. I had to learn this the hard way.
