“A room without books is like a body without a soul.” Cicero

I am a lover of books. I read them, study them, teach them, own them, and now write them. Books are a central part of my life, and I own more books than most people do, and I am delighted that I have them.Β But, I am notΒ a collector–these are for reading and for use. I do not care about first editions or the monetary value of books.Β I care about them as objects to be held, felt, and read.
And I feel most at home in any room if it has books. They do not have to be organized, but they should be there.
And yes, I will always prefer the physical copy of a book over an ebook. That is a post for another day!
My nominees for today because I interpret the rules as meaning nominate 3 new bloggers each day of the challenge:
Yinglan https://yzhengblog.wordpress.com
M. C. Tuggle http://mctuggle.com/
Kas https://afellowzebra.wordpress.com/
The Rules:
1.) Once a day for the next three days, choose a quotation, and write a little about it.
2.) Thank the person who nominated you, and link back to their site.
3.) Nominate 3 other bloggers for the challenge, and let them know about it.
And thank you to Zanthee https://tasmatron.wordpress.com , who nominated me and who writes an excellent blog.Β Please take the time to check out her blog, and thank you so much for the nomination, Zanthee!
I like the quote very much. I think it is very true for a lot of writers. Thank you for the nomination. π

When my best friend came to live with me, he asked me when I was going to stop buying books? My answer: when I die!

My children would tease me about needing a second house just to keep my books. I told them I could not bear to be so far away.

My favorite quote! You are a man after my own heart. I have my books mostly categorized by genre but there are so many that some just overflow. I like the hard copy too over e-reading but it’s not always practical. I’m out of place to put bookcases. I did a spreadsheet on them because I kept buying books twice or more. They end up being gifts so it’s not a complete loss. I rarely buy used as I want to support the writer and often if I get an e-book, I get a hard copy as well. I live and breathe for books. My kids are as bad. Drop us off near a bookstore and we will spend the day.

And this is my favourite quote of all, Charles! I SO agree with it… Whenever I walk into a house, I look for the books and invariably I find I get on best with folks who have at least a few, either on shelves or scattered around….

Yes. Although I don’t read books since I got the laptop and found the internet. Books were my best friend growing up.

Fantastic π I completely agree! I hope to one day have a room in my home filled with just books. Open one door and step into many worlds.
“I care about them as objects to be held, felt, and read”. Your sentence is very quotable! π

Like this quote. And like you, I prefer a physical book but exorbitant shipping costs have pushed me towards e-books.

I certainly understand, but I still prefer the hard copy.

Or have the best of both worlds…have your bookstore order it for you, or consider a membership program with online retailers which gives you FREE shipping…

Perhaps, but I will always choose the physical copy for myself.

I agree – books must be present in every room! I am very pleased to meet another author who still loves the printed book. Thank you! Holding a book in my hands and physically turning the pages – Ah, this exercise is therapy to my soul!
